Craig Gillespie

Craig Gillespie has been included in the Best Lawyers in Canada List for Class Action Litigation, Medical Negligence, and Personal Injury Litigation.

As a founding partner of Cuming & Gillespie LLP, Craig Gillespie has been recognized by Best Lawyers since 2011 for his work in class action litigation, medical negligence, and personal injury litigation in Calgary, Alberta. Craig has also been named “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers for Medical Negligence, Calgary, Canada, in 2018 and 2020. 

Focusing exclusively on serious personal injury and medical malpractice, Craig has represented clients across Western Canada. With extensive experience in Alberta courts, he has successfully litigated various personal injury cases.

Beyond his legal practice, Craig is actively involved in community organizations, serving on the Board of Directors of MADD Calgary and supporting individuals with brain and spinal injuries through his work with the Cerebral Palsy Association of Alberta and the Calgary Health Trust Patient Experience Program. Driven by a commitment to justice and accountability, Craig has secured significant compensation for clients who have suffered serious personal injuries, enabling them to move forward.

Craig has served as President of the Alberta Trial Lawyers Association and the Canadian Bar Association Alberta South Injury Section. He is a member and past presenter at the Birth Trauma and Medical Malpractice Seminars across Canada. Maia Tomljanovic

Maia Tomljanovic has been included in the Best Lawyers in Canada list for Personal Injury Litigation and Medical Negligence.

Maia Tomljanovic joined Cuming and Gillespie in 2012 and was named partner in 2020. She has been recognized by Best Lawyers since 2022 for personal injury litigation in Calgary, Alberta. Practicing in medical malpractice, personal injury, and professional negligence actions, Maia exclusively represents injured parties and their families in personal injury matters. 

With extensive litigation and dispute resolution experience in Alberta and Saskatchewan, Maia has appeared before various levels of court and participated in mediation and Judicial Dispute Resolution conferences. Her proven track record demonstrates her ability to provide exceptional representation and advocacy for her clients.  

Maia is dedicated to giving back to the legal community and supporting new lawyers. She has volunteered with the Legal Education Society of Alberta as a coach, guest lectured at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law, and served on the Executive of the CBA Health Law South Section and Board of the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association (ACTLA). Her commitment to professional development extends to her involvement in ACTLA’s continuing legal education seminars and the Western Canadian Medical Malpractice Conference. Additionally, Maia has contributed to community initiatives, including guest lecturing for the ACTLA Women’s Legal Forum Gala and supporting fundraising efforts for the Calgary Drug Treatment Court and The Women’s Centre.

Maia is dedicated to her work and understands the significance of acting on behalf of individuals who have sustained an injury due to someone else’s negligence. She is committed to ensuring that the rights of Albertans are protected through her work and community involvement.
